Where Afrobeat and Japanese pop meet for ultimate mashup
If you’ve seen the badass music video for the song “King” by electronica music producer Grades, then you know it was pretty slick, laying down the cool, deep house tracks with crazy imagery of a Japanese school girl battling her imaginary animated foes in an abandoned school house. In other words, don’t mess with homegirl.
It was released last summer with some fanfare, but I am surprised that it didn’t really go as viral as it should, especially since the music video, directed by Taichi Kimura with animation by famed anime producer and personality Rapparu, was just so inventive and fun.
Well, like all things on the Internet, some things just get resurrected and mashed up. Check out the music video again, but remixed by an outfit called The Brain Freeze Project with “Your Body Hot ft. Attitude” by Skales. This Afrobeat is, what do the kids say, oh yeah… DOPE.
In the meantime, you can see the original Grades music video here.
