I’ve written about the upcoming action film THE NIGHT COMES FOR US, which had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest a couple of weeks ago. Directed by Timo Tjahjanto and starring Indonesian action stars Joe Taslim and Iko Uwais of THE RAID.

Pun intended, the film killed the audiences at Fantastic Fest. Here’s what I wrote about their reaction:

Asian cinema was also well represented there with a few that totally blew me away. The best action film I’ve seen in years, THE NIGHT COMES FOR US from Timo Tjahjanto and starring Joe Taslim and Iko Uwais from THE RAID, where everything can be turned into a weapon. And I mean EVERYTHING. It’s also the bloodiest movie I’ve seen in a long time as well, a mash-up of DEAD ALIVE meets HARD-BOILED with the most inventive, balls-to-the-wall action and the most unique killings, which number in the hundreds. The audience for that world premiere screening was beyond raucous.

It was also a treat to meet my handsomer alter ego IRL. The film’s plot is fairly simple:

After sparing a girl’s life during a massacre, an elite Triad assassin is targeted by an onslaught of murderous gangsters.

It’s a through line that serves as a vehicle for limitless carnage and that is an understatement.

THE NIGHT COMES FOR US is a Netflix original and is set to drop worldwide on October 19. The full trailer captures an inkling of all the batshit craziness!
