The Filipino American community is in mourning over the sudden loss of Dawn Bohulano Mabalon.
A professor at San Francisco State University, a historian, an author, an activist, and a scholar, the Stockton native had a number of teaching and research interests; including (but not limited to) race and ethnicity, Filipino American history, community and family history, and food culture.
She was the author of the books, FILIPINOS IN STOCKTON and LITTLE MANILA IS IN THE HEART; both of which go in depth of the history of Stockton’s Filipino American community. Mabalon also co-founded the Little Manila Foundation, and in 2013, she was recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World.
Mabalon died unexpectedly yesterday while on vacation with her family in Hawaii. A GoFundMe campaign has since been set up to raise money to bring her back to California, as well as cover her funeral and memorial costs.
