This news may disappoint those who have huge respect or love for ALBERT EINSTEIN, the famed physicist from the early to mid part of the 1900s. He was also known for quite awhile to be a man beyond his times with how he publicly denounced the discrimination against African Americans. He has even been quoted as saying that “RACISM IS THE DISEASE OF WHITE PEOPLE”.
But the recent publication of his personal diaries reveals another side of Einstein, one which is dark and shows his disdain for different races of people. He wrote a lot about his hate for Chinese people. Between October 1922 and March 1923, Einstein toured China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Palestine and Spain.
“a peculiar herd-like nation… often more like automatons than people”, adding: “Even the children are spiritless and look lethargic.”
After writing of their “abundance of offspring” and “fecundity”, he goes on to say: “It would be a pity if these Chinese supplant all other races. For the likes of us the mere thought is unspeakably dreary.”
“In the harbour, a swarm of rowing boats with screaming and gesticulating Levantines of every shade, who lunge at our ship. As if spewed from hell,”
The private writings were published last week by Princeton University Press, which said they “reveal Einstein’s stereotyping of members of various nations and raise questions about his attitudes on race”. Ze’ev Rosenkranz, the book’s editor and assistant director of the Einstein Papers Project at the California Institute of Technology, told The Guardian:
“I think a lot of comments strike us as pretty unpleasant – what he says about the Chinese in particular. “They’re kind of in contrast to the public image of the great humanitarian icon. I think it’s quite a shock to read those and contrast them with his more public statements. They’re more off guard, he didn’t intend them for publication.”
It is obvious that Einstein had severe “yellow peril” and despite the fact that at the time of Einstein’s tour of China – China was poor, there is no shortage of his fear of the threat he felt China poses. Is this feeling really different from how many white and European nations feel about China and about Chinese people? I think not. The “yellow peril” is still there and has never left – it has just morphed into a different beast.
In Einstein’s diaries where he hated the Chinese and discriminated against them, he loved the Japanese by saying they are an “unostentatious, decent, altogether very appealing” people.
I will leave it here, but it is clear that Einstein’s dark side has been revealed, To be honest, my respect for him has gone down dramatically, almost to the point of seeing what a RACIST POS he was.
