“Tura Thursday” is a regular series celebrating the legacy of the late, great Tura Satana, best known as Varla in the 1965 Russ Meyer cult classic Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. This series is curated by Tura’s longtime manager, friend, confidant and CEO of Tura Satana Productions, Siouxzan Perry.
This week we wanted to share a snippet from an interview Tura did while she was in Canada with the magazine, SADISTIK.
The interview was done by Mort Todd, an American writer and media entrepreneur, best known as an editor-in-chief of Cracked magazine, and later, Marvel Music. He is owner of Comicfix, a media company that has developed licensed properties.
We chose this excerpt for obvious reasons… enjoy Mort’s phenomenal artwork. We will be sharing more from this interview throughout the year.
TURA SATANA: Exclusive Interview with the ULTIMATE FEMME FATALE!
… I was a natural for the Matt Helm films, but I never got the part, because I refused to get the job on my back. The casting director hit on me several times and I finally told him that if he were the last man on earth and the world would end if he and I didn’t make love, then the world would end! He finally told my agent that I was too sexy for the parts of either Matt Helm or James Bond girls. It was shortly after that, when I left Hollywood and went back on the road as a dancer. I refused to starve for my arts sake and I had daughters to take care of and feed.
