“Tura Thursday” is a regular series celebrating the legacy of the late, great Tura Satana, best known as Varla in the 1965 Russ Meyer cult classic Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. This series is curated by Tura’s longtime manager, friend, confidant and CEO of Tura Satana Productions, Siouxzan Perry. The Kickstarter campaign for the TURA! doc ended earlier this week and we successfully reached and exceeded our goal of $50,000!

It’s over and yet, in another way, it’s only just begun…. again… I know for one that I would far rather be sitting behind the wheel of a Carrera tearing across the Mojave desert, kicking ass, spitting dust and creating havoc than trying to negotiate through the crowdfunding labyrinth. It was pure hell. Yet, we achieved our goal and more, thanks to the most amazing backers possible, THE FANS! We did something Tura refused to do, we beat the clock! We worked tirelessly, reaching out to family and friends, old and new. Creating new video content, new perk ideas, countless visual aids and graphics (all done in-house!) Facebook live events, Kickstarter live events, Instagram, tweeting, tweeting, and more tweeting! And it paid off! PastedGraphic-3 We also caught the eye of Kickstarter a number of times and were awarded “a project we love” badge and “a project of the day” badge. And numerous mentions in the press including AfterEllen.com, IndieWire, Unicorn Booty and by some great bloggers, such as UK Russ Meyer expert Lydia Mitchell or the fan writing project Warped Prospective Warped Perspective to name just a few! So we did it with the power and pledges of Tura Satana’s fans…which was her living and dying wish.

We are now gearing up to start the next part of this incredible journey. What has powered us so much and will hopefully empower all in the future are the reactions (not just pledges) of Tura’s fans, which we will definitely be archiving for posterity. We used these as memes for the campaign. Here is the first one: Stenchever And there are over 100 in between from all over the world here. And here’s the last: liisa What more can I say…when the fans say so much? We thank all avid Tura Thursday blog readers, too, for following Tura’s amazing story. I leave you with our director, Cody Jarrett’s final (for the time-being) message of appreciation to you all, to all our amazing celebrity supporters including our narrator Margaret Cho, Dita von Teese, Tara Moss and Mitch O’ Connell. This is part of our thank you message to all the backers (so some of you might see it again very soon – THANK YOU!).

uslaunch Producer, Siouxzan Perry, holds Tura’s ashes with Director Cody Jarrett and Associate Producer Helen Macfarlane as TURA! Kickstarter project is initiated. Tura has been with us all the way! Thank you, and keep watching this page, Team Tura!

P.S. We  just want to give the amazing artist Mitch O’ Connell a huge shout out, once again, for giving us access to all of his Tura art work for this campaign… THANK YOU for your love and support MITCH!

As always, please visit our site and sign our guestbook! Tura Thursday
