“Tura Thursday” is a regular series celebrating the legacy of the late, great Tura Satana, best known as Varla in the 1965 Russ Meyer cult classic Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. This series is curated by Tura’s longtime manager, friend, confidant and CEO of Tura Satana Productions, Siouxzan Perry.
To celebrate his birthday on January 8th, we are dedicating this week’s blog to Elvis!
Tura described how she taught Elvis to dance not only in her unpublished memoirs, “My Kickass Life”, but also in several interviews one of which is captured by Pamela de Barres in her book “Let’s Spend The Night Together”.
Pamela writes, “…and the way Elvis danced! Who knew human hips could gyrate like that? ….his knees at odd angles, his pelvis thrusting forward, arms outstretched, eyes half-closed, sweat glistening danger….”
Who knew indeed!!
Of course, much more of Tura”s inspirational relationship with Elvis will be revealed in the TURA! Documentary.
