“Tura Thursday” is a regular series celebrating the legacy of the late, great Tura Satana, best known as Varla in the 1965 Russ Meyer cult classic Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. This series is curated by Tura’s longtime manager, friend, confidant and CEO of Tura Satana Productions, Siouxzan Perry.
This week, we have a musical interlude. Hang on a minute! Who’s that at the wheel, out kicking ass? It’s Prince protégée, Carmen Electra!
The WERQ video was actually made in 2014, a year after the song was released. According to Carmen, the part pop, dance, electro WERQ was to inspire self-empowerment and to empowering others. Taking what you’ve got and making it WERQ!
“The video was inspired by Russ Meyer, John Waters and Quentin Tarantino. I wanted to do something fun where I was able to play different characters of women who were strong and powerful”.
Seems there is no rest for TURA!
