We are excited to see entries come in for the 2016 Interpretations Short Film Initiative! You can view the entries over at the Interpretations website. Check back often as new entries are submitted and go live on the site.

If you haven’t heard of Interpretations, and you are a budding filmmaker or interested in taking this unique creative challenge, then head over the contest website for all the info. But in a nutshell, Interpretations is a way of encouraging aspiring filmmakers to develop their own original and unique voice. All participants will “interpret” a four line script, and can produce and shoot it any way they wish. AS a quick reminder, here’s the script:

The only caveat is that the lines are static and must be in that order and the actual film itself is to be no more than 3 minutes long. Therefore, everyone is shooting their films from the same source material and leveling the playing field in a way that traditional filmmaking competitions cannot.

Three shorts will be selected from the entries, with the filmmakers invited to screen their films at the NBCUniversal Short Film Festival at the Directors Guild of America on October 19 in Los Angeles!  But, that’s not all. The winning filmmakers will have an opportunity to direct a project for one of the Comcast or NBCUniversal platforms (or equivalent platform) under the mentorship of Justin Lin (BETTER LUCK TOMORROW, FAST & FURIOUS, STAR TREK BEYOND) and other industry professionals. YOMYOMF will produce the projects.

There’s still a lot of time to submit your short film entry, with the final deadline about a month away, specifically July 15, 2016! Now you may think that a month is not enough time to shoot, produce and edit a short film, but hey, we live in a world of 48—hour film contests, YouTube, digital cameras and Final Cut Pro, so there’s plenty of time.

The hard part is to come up with a unique, interesting “interpretation” of the script to come up with a cool short film that will elevate you from the pack. Plus, if you win, this is a substantive award, to work with one of the biggest and most successful Hollywood directors working today!

Also, once you submit your film, it’ll go live and you’ll have your own profile page with the short film embedded to view. This is also the part where we encourage creators to promote their work via social media and comment as well. The earlier you get it before the July 15 deadline, the more time to promote!

So, what are you waiting for? Carpe diem this mofo and don’t pass up this amazing opportunity! To view already submitted short films, head over to the InterpretationsFilm.com. Interpretations-Banner-01-1024x239
