During a hearing last week where Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke was questioned by members of Congress including Hawaiian Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, Zinke was criticized for kicking off his response to a question Hanabusa asked about the Japanese American internment by saying “konnichiwa” which is Japanese for “good day”.
Hanabusa is Japanese American and her Japanese American grandparents were sent to camps during World War II for being seen as the “foreign enemy” making Zinke’s inability to be able to distinguish between “Japanese” and “American” all the more problematic.
So once the backlash started and Zinke learned why attempting to speak Japanese to an Asian American was offensive, of course he
immediately apologized doubled down. Come on, Zinke is Trump’s boy, what’d you expect?
Following a tour of the U.S.-Mexico border on Saturday, Zinke was asked by reporters to respond to the outrage and allegedly relied, “How could ever saying ‘Good morning’ be bad?”
So white boy clearly doesn’t get it. I’ve said it before and will say it again–fuck this guy–and I hope the rumors that he’s on his way out with much of Trump’s other clueless lackeys is true so we can all send him a Japanese greeting of our own–Sayonara, bitch!
