Looks like Kiwi director Taika Waititi is on a roll! Deadline Hollywood exclusively reports that Waititi’s next project after THOR: RAGNAROK has just been acquired by streaming giant Netflix.
Netflix is closing up a whopper of a deal this morning to acquire Bubbles, a package built around the Isaac Adamson spec screenplay that topped the 2015 Black List that tells the offbeat story of iconic singer Michael Jackson from the perspective of his beloved chimp Bubbles. Oscar nominated director Taika Waititi (Two Cars, One Night and Thor: Ragnarok) is set to co-direct the stop motion animated film with Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox).
Waititi is currently in post-production on the latest THOR film, which is set to be released on November 3.
In the meantime, BUBBLES seems to be right in the middle of Waititi’s wheelhouse, especially if this closing sequence to his 2010 film BOY is any indication. Witness this cross-cultural mashup of ‘Thriller’ and one of the most beloved Maori songs ‘Poi E.’
