Author Celeste Ng was a guest on last night’s episode of LATE NIGHT WITH SETH MEYERS, in order to promote her newly released second novel, LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE. While on the show, she humorously sheds light on a number of topics relating to her work and her background; including, but not limited to, how her parents came to accept her destiny as a writer, on writing about teenage life in the 90’s, how race was viewed back then, as well as a bizarre tradition Shaker Heights, Ohio has on every Halloween.

Shaker Heights is both Ng’s hometown and the setting for LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE; where a mother-and-daughter duo offset the Ohio suburb that’s otherwise known for playing by the rules. If this tradition, as well as other details Ng learned about her hometown when conducting research for the novel, are of any indication as to what kind of place this is, then it’s no wonder I’m still on the wait list for this book at the library I use.

LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE was released last Tuesday by Penguin Press. It comes three years after the publication of the New York Times Bestseller, EVERYTHING I NEVER TOLD YOU.
