Kal Penn donates Masterchef prize to Palestinian refugees
You’re a good man, Kal Penn. Currently a cast member of the hit ABC show DESIGNATED SURVIVOR, and best known as stoner Kumar in the HARRY AND KUMAR film series, Penn recently competed in celebrity chef show MASTERCHEF, where he won $25,000 for charity.
Here’s what website Al Alarabiya reported about Penn’s win:
US actor Kal Penn has donated his $25,000 Masterchef Celebrity prize money to Palestinian refugees.
Penn, known for his role as Kumar in the Harold & Kumar film series, defeated Cheryl Hines and make good on his promise to donate the prize money to his NGO of choice, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency USA (UNRWA).
“I chose the United Nations agency for relief and works for Palestinian refugees; $25,000 can feed over a thousand people for a year,” Penn told TV-chef-host Gordon Ramsay during the episode.
UNRWA posted a thank you note on Facebook to Penn for putting a spotlight on the difficulties faced by millions of Palestinian refugees.
Although his competitor Cheryl Hines (CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM) poked Penn in the eye with her tongs, it was worth it.
