It has been decided and we can now make it official! The Hollywood Reporter just announced the Top 15, as well as the final jury, headed by Justin Lin.

Here is the Top 15 Semi-Finalists of the 2016 Interpretations Short Film Initiative:

SOCKS FOR YOU! directed by Rommel Andaya

THE MAJESTIC MR. JESSE directed by Lawrence Chen
WINGMAN directed by Julia Chang

The Top 15 was decided by votes tabulated from our screening committee. It was especially tough to choose 15 and there were many arguments and debates to decide who made the next cut. For the rest of the month, we will be highlighting some of our favorite shorts that unfortunately did not make the Top 15, but they were really close.

Back to the Top 15 — This semi-finalist group will be whittled down to a Final 3. Two of the winners will be decided by an esteemed jury and the third winner will be decided by audience voting on the Interpretations website.

Regarding that esteemed jury, who will be deciding on the winners from the Top 15, here they are:

karen horne
Karen Horne (Senior Vice President, Programming Talent Development & Inclusion, NBC Entertainment & Universal Television)

doug jung
Doug Jung (screenwriter, STAR TREK BEYOND, CONFIDENCE, BANSHEE)

justin lin
Justin Lin (Director, BETTER LUCK TOMORROW, FAST & FURIOUS, STAR TREK BEYOND, YOMYOMF.com Founder)

Pudi
Danny Pudi (actor, COMMUNITY, POWERLESS, YOMYOMF Network’s BOOK CLUB)

jadyn_wong
Jadyn Wong (actor, SCORPION)

Per the rules in this next phase, the jury will decide on two out of the three final winners. The third winner, will be determined by YOU. That’s right. All the Top 15 films will be eligible for audience voting. Just view the film on each of the Top 15’s profile pages and vote for the your favorite film. Here are the rules for voting:

1. Go to the page of the video you want to vote for. Click on the Vote button which is the “triangle” icon on the lower left corner under the video. Screen Shot 2016-09-07 at 3.25.07 PM

You will be prompted to log in if you already have a YOMYOMF account. If you do not have one, then you must first sign-up and create an account. You must be logged in to vote.

2. Once you’ve voted, the icon should turn red and/or a message will display letting you know your vote has been accepted. Screen Shot 2016-09-07 at 3.25.27 PM

3. You can vote for as many of the top 15 videos as you like, but you can only vote once for each video. If you vote for any entry more than one time, all your votes may be disqualified.

4. The open voting period will take place from midnight on September 7 through 11:59PM PST on October 6, 2016.

5. In addition to voting, we encourage you to leave comments for the entries and engage with the filmmakers. Check frequently on the blog and especially our pov section throughout the voting period for exclusive content about the films and filmmakers.

6. If you experience any problems voting, then e-mail the contest administrator.

The directors of the Final 3 will be presented at the NBCUniversal Short Film Festival on October 19 at the Directors Guild of America in West Hollywood.

These Final 3 directors will then have an opportunity to direct a YOMYOMF produced project for one of the Comcast or NBCUniversal platforms (or another equivalent platform) under the mentorship of Justin Lin and other industry professionals. YOMYOMF will also make an attempt to introduce promising filmmakers, whether they are a finalist or not, to appropriate industry mentors to help create more focused opportunities for growth and networking.

Congratulations to the Top 15 Filmmakers who have made it this far. But, the journey is far from over as we enter “Phase Two” of this year’s Interpretations Short Film Initiative.

Again, you, as the general audience, have the power to determine one of the winners, so view the Top 15 and make sure to vote. In addition, if you want to see all of the films that were entered this year, then head over to the All Entries Page.

As for the jury, I am sure they’ll have unenviable task of deciding who are the final winners and from just a cursory look at the Top 15, it will be a hard choice, because there are some true standouts. But, that’s part of the game and we look forward to seeing who will be the three winners for this edition of Interpretations!

Head over to the Interpretations website to start viewing and voting!
