CRAZY RICH ASIANS only came out last month and A SIMPLE FAVOR came out last week, but newcomer Henry Golding is absolutely on fire right now. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news today that the British-Malay actor and former TV host has been cast in LAST CHRISTMAS, a holiday set romance set in London and will also co-star Emilia Clarke (GAME OF THRONES). Paul Feig (FREAKS AND GEEKS, BRIDESMAIDS) will direct the upcoming film and will reunite with Golding, whom he directed in A SIMPLE FAVOR.
The script was snatched up by Universal Pictures earlier this summer and is written by Emma Thompson (yes, that Emma Thompson) and Bryony Kimmings. Although the plot is under wraps, a holiday romance set in London definitely has tinges of LOVE, ACTUALLY, which Thompson also co-starred in.
More from THR regarding the meteoric rise of Henry Golding:
Golding’s first-ever feature film role was the lead in CRAZY RICH ASIANS, which has skyrocketed him to leading-man status after the Warner Bros.’ hit romantic comedy was No. 1 for three weeks in a row to become the top-grossing comedy at the domestic box office in the last two two years. The actor also stars opposite Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick in Feig’s A SIMPLE FAVOR (which earned $16 million in its domestic debut), and he also has shot the indie Monsoon. Golding is repped by Paradigm, Megan Silverman Management and Stone Genow.
