2017 is indeed the 15th anniversary of the debut of BETTER LUCK TOMORROW at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. The film was directed by YOMYOMF founder Justin Lin and features many in the YOMYOMF family including Roger Fan and Sung Kang. More importantly, BLT led directly to the creation of YOMYOMF.

So we’re proud to be the community presenter for the 15th anniversary screening of the rare Sundance version of BLT, which will open Visual Communications’ Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival next Thurs, April 27 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. You can purchase tickets here or enter here for a chance to win free tickets by April 24. In addition, SAG-AFTRA is presenting a panel on BLT as part of the festival’s C3 Conference on April 30 in Little Tokyo, click here for tickets and info.

So in honor of the film’s 15th anniversary, on this #FlashbackFriday, we look at how BLT came to be by presenting LINSANITY director Evan Leong’s 2003 documentary BLT: GENESIS. Evan followed the film’s journey from the very beginning all the way to its successful debut at Sundance so take a look above to get a complete inside look at how a little indie that most people didn’t think stood a shot instead became a milestone for Asian American cinema.
