Disney’s live-action version of their animated classic BEAUTY AND THE BEAST was released this weekend and is a massive hit. And like the animated version, it’s a full blown musical. But unfortunately it looks like that won’t be the case for the live-action version of another beloved Disney animated musical coming to theaters next year: MULAN.

It was announced earlier this year that WHALE RIDER director Niki Caro will be helming the new version of the film and in a recent interview with Moviefone, she pretty much all but revealed that MULAN will not be a musical. Which means if you were hoping to see actors belting out this classic:

Well, probably ain’t gonna happen.


Here’s the interview excerpt in question:

Caro: It’s a big, girly martial arts epic. It will be extremely muscular and thrilling and entertaining and moving.

That sounds awesome.

Caro: Yeah!

But from what I understand, no songs?

Caro: Yes, from what I understand, no songs right now, much to the horror of my children.
