As y’all are aware, we here at YOMYOMF had the opportunity recently to sit down and interview the tenacious AWKWAFINA. One thing learned from the interview was that we should all be proud for who we are and when we feel “othered” we can use that to our advantage as AWKWAFINA has. Here is part of the interview if you are interested:
I think it is the experiences of feeling “othered” in any way that really makes us sit down and think about who we are as Asian Americans and as people of color and my thought is that these reflections can make a person retreat within themselves or it makes them think about the type of person they want to become – good and bad. I chose the life of creation and I love creating. I see myself as an artist as a way of self expression and as a way to complain and express my opinions. Awkwafina wouldn’t be who she is if she didn’t go through things and experiences in life like racism and sexism, if she didn’t see the good and the bad in people and if she was not born out of this torn “other sense”. But you know what? I revel in it – I like being “othered” because it gives me another view of life.
As her career just goes on the up, this woman never has a dull or quiet moment and she has just released her first project in 4 years titled : IN FINA WE TRUST. It is 7 songs which have been released, and having listened to the previews – I pretty much already love it – but then again I am bias as I have always been an AWKWAFINA fan. Here is more via Hot New Hip Hop:
Awkwafina is back with her first project in four years, In Fina We Trust. The new project is seven songs deep. It’s the first project she released since 2014’s Yellow Ranger. She previously teased a new project a few months back and said that it would be dropping in late summer. Fortunately, we got it a bit earlier that that.
Peep Awkwafina’s new project and keep your eyes peeled for new music from her.
Enjoy the preview!~
