Note: It’s coming out in April now, apparently.

Ooooh, the darkness. Of note: The big reveal in this teaser is the return of Hawkeye in his Ronin persona. The signage indicates that he’s in Japan, evidently having just pwned some dudes with a short sword, as Black Widow observes. Dedicated fans of Scarlett Johansson will note that this is at least her third cinematic trip to Japan, completing the trilogy that began with LOST IN TRANSLATION and the live-action GHOST IN THE SHELL.

Not tryna start a beef, just saying. The Hawkeye mod known as “Ronin” is an alternate identity taken on by Clint Barton in the aftermath of Marvel’s CIVIL WAR storyline (both in the comics and film continuity, looks like).

As for why it’s such a big deal that Hawkeye and Ant-Man return to help fight a guy who can throw moons, well, my lovingly-held fan theory is that they’re going to lift this scene from Grant Morrison/Howard Porter’s run on DC’s JUSTICE LEAGUE. Presented without further comment:

…which was a cool comics moment, because, y’know, the least and smallest among us, yadda yadda.

And Hawkeye/Ronin will get to say to Thanos something cool like, “You have offended my family, and you have offended the Elders of the Marvel Universe.”

I’m kidding, it’s probably just about time travel.
