Apparently, an Eye Roll Can Get You Censored in China
When live footage of China Business News journalist Liang Xiangyi rolling her eyes at another journalist’s very long-winded question during an event at the Great Hall of the People went viral and inspired memes, the Chinese government censored the footage and revoked Liang’s media accreditation.
Liang was standing beside fellow journalist Zhang Huijun who was asking a question to state assets chief Xiao Yaqing after the morning session of the National People’s Congress and as you can see from the clip above, Liang wasn’t having it after Zhang went on and on.
As of Tuesday night, Liang’s personal Weibo page had been taken down and search results of her name on the social media platform were censored.
So apparently public displays of thinly-veiled disgust is a no-no in China. Good to know.
