Today is the national “Day Without Immigrants” boycott/strike to protest President Trump’s immigration policies and highlight the contributions of immigrants in the U.S.

But even if you’re not able to support the protest directly (i.e. taking the day off from work), Reappropriate’s Jenn shows why it’s still important for Asian Americans to show solidarity “in body and/or spirit”:

  1. This group does not represent all legal immigrants. The white liberal media
likes to create false news as all immigrants protesting these policies. Legal
immigrants like Asian and other groups follow the procedure to get visa and
green card and submit the to the USCIS to come and wait their turn to enter
the US. Illegal immigrants come and sneak over the border or overstay their
visa to cheat the system and live or work here under false identities and
such. They should not get preferential treatment over those who applied
and waited their turn to come to the US with a green card or work visa.

  2. @Don There are a lot of problematic statements in your comment but I’ll just focus on one: “Legal immigrants like Asian and other groups follow the procedure to get visa and
green card and submit the to the USCIS to come and wait their turn to enter
the US.” You’re saying here that Asians are “legal immigrants” who do everything by the book. While this may be true of most Asians. it’s an alt fact. The reality is Asians have now outpaced Mexicans in the growth of our undocumented population: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/08/asians-now-outpace-mexicans-in-terms-of-undocumented-growth/432603/

  3. Phillip. If that true, then they also must must follow the rules or go back and apply the legal and right way. Don’t over stay your visa. That includes the expectant mothers from China who game the system and have a baby birth in the US to get US citizenship for the baby. Just because they see many more hispanic llegal immigarants coming in from South of the border does not mean they have to follow them. Cmon it is not fair for the others even with me when I had to apply and wait for my wife to come here so she can get her green card. It is not fair for the others who applied, submit the fees and requisite documents and medical checks and get a visa then wait for permanent green card.
Legal immigrants do not want to be compared to illegal immigrants who sometimes use stolen idenities and fake social security cards to get access to get driver’s license or health care services. This drives up health premiums for us regular folks who abide by the rules. Tired of these liberal so called SJW who think they represent all of us when it is not true. Tired of the bleeding white liberal media who slant the real truth and the effects of illegal immigration across the nation.
